Nespresso Capsules - Inferior product? Not for a True Coffee Lover

by Janice
(New Zealand)

The Nespresso cube coffee machine is great - so cute and convenient.

However although I need a new espresso machine, I won't be buying a Nespresso coffee machine because all the Nespresso capsules are a blend of robusta and aribica coffee beans.

Robusta beans are cheap and inferior. No real coffee lover would ever use them.

So why doesn't the Nespresso make some decent coffee for their great machines?

Comment from Billy at CoffeeMakers411 -

While I do agree with you Janice about Robusta not being as high a quality... Unfortunately, it is becoming very common for companies to lace Aribica coffee with Robusta to both cut costs and boost strength.

It is good to hear that Sara Lee is now making coffee capsules for the Nespresso Machines under the name L'OR. Sara Lee and Douwe Egberts have been in the game for a long time, so it will be interesting to see what their new line of coffee pods will be like.

They are known for high quality, and they are currently coming in slightly cheaper than the Nespresso capsules.

Nespresso has a place in the market - Robusta can be good.
by: johnr

The Nespresso system, as many other single serve (pod, capsule, pad etc) systems, has its place in the market for convenience, ease of use, consistent quality etc.

However, for those wanting more from their coffee experience, a conventional espresso machine and grinder will take the user to a higher level of both quality and enjoyment.

Coffee is very subjective... ie, there is no right or wrong way it should be made, its what you like that counts.

Regarding the addition of Robusta to coffee blends, just because it has lower cost doesn't mean to say it doesn't have its use when roasting.

Robusta coffee has its own flavor, body etc and can enhance a blend to establish a great coffee... much the same way blended grape varieties can produce great wines.

Sure, some roasters may use Robusta for the wrong reasons but good ones will use it to produce very good and unique coffee blends.
