Keurig Single Serve Coffee Maker Review: Keurig Elite B40 Gourmet Single Cup Home Brewing System

by John G.
(Washington, USA)

Keurig single serve coffee maker review: Keurig Elite B40 Gourmet Single Cup Home Brewing System. I Purchased it at Wal-Mart, current price $99.96, including a sampler of coffee. Quickly produces a single cup of 8 or 10 oz coffee or tea.

K-cups (keurig's single cup coffee) are sold in a variety of flavors and are not just limited to coffees. One can also purchase tea and cocoa in convenient K-Cups in retail outlets such as Bed Bath and Beyond, Wal-Mart, some local grocery stores, or through online retailers. K-cups allow for an easy way to address different beverage preferences.

With guests present, the beauty of the single serve coffee maker is that you can serve a variety of caffeinated, decaffeinated, or flavored hot beverages without brewing separate pots. K-cups can tend to be pricey, with the average cost of a cup of coffee at around $0.50. However, this can be reduced by using retailer coupons, or purchases from the Keurig website.

A reusable K-cup, the my K-cup, is also available for purchase, that can be filled with loose ground coffee to avoid using disposable K-Cups and potentially reducing ongoing cost. Produces hot water quickly that can be used for other instant applications, such as for Cup of Soup or re-hydration of other dried foods.

While beverage temperature is acceptable for this reviewer, others may find the lack of control of beverage temperature at brewing to be unacceptable. Two brew size options allow for easily modifying the strength of coffee beverages. Water reservoir seems to be adequate for moderate use. However, after making approximately 4-5 beverages, it will need to be refilled.

Water reservoir is detachable for easy cleaning, as well as the drip tray. However, the drip tray is not large enough to hold 10 ounces, leading to a potential mess if the button is pushed without a cup present. This machine is a bit noisy. The pump causes quite a bit of vibration when drawing in water. However, heating and brewing operations are performed with little noise.

This machine does take up more space than my previous drip coffee machine, though I do not find this intrusive. Other models are available that save space. Overall, I enjoy this machine.

I have recommended it to many friends and family and will continue to do so. I love the versatility that my machine gives me, and enjoy that my first cup of the day could be “Donut Shop” flavor, while my next cup is French vanilla, all without brewing another pot.

While the cost of K-Cups is a factor, I prefer knowing that I waste less coffee and only brew what is needed now, thus maintaining a fresher supply of coffee or tea.
