Hamilton Beach - The Great Coffee Maker... My Review

This Hamilton Beach coffee maker does make good coffee, keep it at a good temperature and has an easy to program timer. I have even made a point to assure the cup is securely in place before closing the top, but I still have the cup pushed out of place while inserting the pot.

Great Things about this Hamilton Beach coffee maker:
1) Brews an acceptable cup of drip coffee
2) Almost indestructible
3) small footprint good for dorms and small apartments

Now let me tell why I like this coffee maker most, I bought this 5 cup maker in 2003 right before I went to college. I used it religiously for almost 5 years now (it has a permanent home in my office and is used by 4 other colleagues on a daily basis). For what it is, a small 5 cup inexpensive drip maker it has excelled above and beyond my expectations.

My father even had it for a short time while I was deployed with the army and he said it brewed a better cup than his 75 dollar coffee maker. For a quick shot of caffeine to get you through a long work day or get you started in the AM there is simply nothing better.

I have only broken one piece on the entire maker since purchase. The top of the pot actually is a plastic cover which is connected to the glass with two small knobs (sorry lack of a better term) I accidentally dropped the pot and it smacked against my desk breaking one of the two knobs so the cover is not as stable as it once was but still functional. The actual body of the maker is plastic and very easy to wipe down and keep clean.

Bad Stuff about the Hamilton Beach Coffee Machine:
I can get it to work fine if I insert the pot first, making sure the cup is secure, and then leaving it alone until it's done. But I shouldn't have to, using a coffee maker should be a no-brainer.

The problem I have with it is the filter cup can, and occasionally does, pop out of place very easily. This makes the cup fill up and overflow, spilling coffee all over the counter top. I really do not enjoy cleaning up spilled coffee at 5:00am.

In Conclusion:
All in all - coffee maker ratings 3.5/5 from me for a cheap machine. If the bad stuff I said would bother you I would not recommend this Hamilton Beach coffee maker.
