B30 Keurig Coffee Maker Review- A Fantastic Addition to Any Busy Home

While walking through the local Bed, Bath & Beyond recently, a little red Keurig coffee maker caught our eye.

The Keurig B30 is a personal coffee maker which utilizes individually packaged coffee or tea servings, known as “K cups” to brew hot beverages in about a minute.

My wife and I had seen advertisements for this product, and had heard good things from family members, so we picked one up and decided to try it out.

As it turns out, the Keurig B30 has a been a fantastic, convenient addition to our home. Unpacking and setup was as straight forward as opening up a cardboard box and plugging in the device.

The K-Cups are widely available at major chain retailers and can also be ordered online for a good price.

Those who are wary of proprietary systems like the K-cup system need not worry – for a modest fee, a device called a Keurig My K-Cup can be purchased that will let the user brew his or her own tea/coffee in the Keurig.

We haven’t needed it – most major producers of teas and coffees make their beverages in K-cup form, and I’ve been drinking a hot cup of Green Tea every day since we bought the Keurig. My wife seems keen on the Green Mountain K-Cup Coffee Pods.

Operation of the Keurig coffee maker is straightforward. Turn on the device, press the large ‘Open’ button on the front, and load the K-cup into the K-cup compartment that opens. It will only fit one way.

Close the device (this causes the k-cup to be pierced by an internal mechanism as the water compartment opens), pour a cup of water into the top (I use the same cup I’m going to put my beverage in), close the water compartment and you’re basically done.

Put your cup under the spout, press the “brew” button, and wait patiently for the next minute as your favorite beverage is prepared.

We’ve noticed no real transfer of flavor from one beverage to the next – my wife and I drink different beverages. The Keurig B30 has made preparation of hot beverages an easy, convenient, hassle free affair.

Over several months of use, we have had no problems and can report no quality control issues with either the device itself or the K-cups (and we’ve gone through quite a few of those.)

I would recommend the B30 to just about anyone, but it’s particularly appropriate for small, busy families.

Drawbacks are minimal, and depend on your specific situation. The Keurig can make a little noise as it heats the water, but the bubbling sound is not particularly louder than your average coffee percolator.

Larger families or individuals who want more than one cup at a time may want to consider larger models like the Keurig B70, because the B30 will only brew one cup at a time. Water has to be added each time you want to brew a cup, while the B70 has a reservoir that will hold several cups’ worth of water ready to go.

These drawbacks are minimal, and for my wife and I, haven’t been an issue at all. We’ve been enjoying hot teas together in the morning and afternoon. In fact, I suspect the Keurig will help to substantially improve my cholesterol – green tea (which I now drink regularly due to the ease of its preparation in the B30) has been associated with better cholesterol numbers.

Overall, the Keurig B30 Mini Brewer has been fantastic, and we'll give it a full 5 out of 5 rating
